Highlight of this week was an amazing fashion show by VELVET magazine as the team celebrated its sixth anniversary in scintillating style at the Palazzo Versace, Dubai. Titled ‘VELVET Gala’, the event hosted six internationally renowned couture designers from the Gulf and Europe who showcased their collections on the catwalk, to the rocking sounds of music, a blazing video display and to the sounds of rapturous welcome from a sold-out crowd.
Amato, Michael Cinco, Ezra, House of Hend, Antonio Grimaldi and Renato Balestra, who showed their prowess with material and cuts, carried off the day with their astonishing strengths in couture. Fabric, print, embroidery and metal met and blended together to give a glimpse of what fashion, technology and aesthetic taste can do when handled creatively.
Sheikha Hend Al Qassimi- the founder and owner of VELVET had added, “VELVET was born out of my love for fashion, travel, health, art, culture and my home-the Middle East. It has been incredible six years for VELVET in bridging luxury Arabia with the rest of the world. We’ve been fortunate to have some of the world’s most creative talent work with us and we look forward to showcasing and working with more of the inspiring talent from all over the world. ”
The designs were highlighted to the background of a white leitmotif, since the floral patterns and interiors were done in white. The decorations gave a sense of purity and elegance, if not of other worldliness. As the audience showed its appreciation with loud clapping and the designers acknowledged it, it was clear that VELVET’s efforts to bring together the traditions of Arabia and the éclat of the West had borne bountiful fruit.
VELVET is a UAE-based international print and online magazine that is dedicated to building bridges between luxurious Arabia and the rest of the world by supporting Arab and European talent. A VIP-studded Gala Dinner followed the fashion show.
